The past perfect subjunctive
The past perfect subjunctive is very easy to form: simply use the imperfect subjunctive of avere and essere and then add the past participle:

| lui, lei, Lei avesse guadagnato | lui fosse venuto; lei fosse venuta |
| noi avessimo guadagnato | noi fossimo venuti/e |
| voi aveste guadagnato | voi foste venuti/e |
| loro avessero guadagnato | loro fossero venuti/e |
